KLKC 1540 AM first went on the air October 26, 1948 as a daytime station, meaning power goes up at sunrise and drops down at sunset. On October 26, 2018, the AM signal began broadcasting on an FM translator at 106.7 kilohertz which greatly expanded local coverage and provided listeners with consistent signal twenty-four hours a day.
KLKC 93.5 FM went on the air in 1978. Audio streaming on the internet was initiated several years ago and updated when the current ownership group took control. In January of 2017, video streaming was made available for Parsons High School Viking and Labette County High School basketball and football games on www.KLKCradio.com .
The radio station, originally established by a group of local business people, was acquired by Carol Combs in 1954. She later shared ownership with her son Richard Combs and Gene Joslin. Local owners have included Acme Broadcasting and SKIL Resource Center. Parsons Media Group purchased the stations in 2015. According to PMG President Wayne Gilmore, KLKC is continuing efforts to utilize technology to increase the coverage of events in Southeast Kansas.
